Southern Railway Apprentice Recruitment 2025:The Southern Railway has released a significant recruitment notification (No. 01/2025) for the engagement of Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961. This is an excellent opportunity for eligible candidates to undergo training in various designated trades across different divisions and workshops within the Southern Railway’s jurisdiction.

Southern Railway Apprentice Recruitment Eligibility Criteria Qualifications:
To be eligible for this apprenticeship, candidates must meet specific academic and geographical requirements. The recruitment is open to two main categories: Fresher and Ex-ITI.
Fresher Category:
- Fitter, Painter & Welder: Candidates must have passed the 10th class with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks under the 10+2 system.
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT): Candidates must have passed the 12th class with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
- Note: The minimum 50% marks in the 10th or 12th standard is not applicable for SC/ST/PwBD candidates.
Ex-ITI Category:
- Candidates must have passed the 10th class with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks under the 10+2 system and possess a certificate from an ITI in the relevant trade.
- For trades like Electrician and Electronics Mechanic, candidates must have passed the 10th class with Science (Physics and Chemistry) and Mathematics as subjects.
Age Limit:
According to the notification, candidates should have
completed 15 years of age and should not have completed 22 years (for Freshers) or 24 years (for Ex-ITI).
There are also age relaxations provided for reserved categories:
- OBC: 3 years.
- SC/ST: 5 years.
- PwBD: 10 years.
Southern Railway Apprentice Recruitment Geographical Jurisdiction:
Only candidates residing in the following locations are eligible to apply:
- The entire state of Tamil Nadu.
- The entire Union Territory of Puducherry.
- The entire state of Kerala.
- The entire Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands.
- Only two districts of Andhra Pradesh, namely SPSR Nellore and Chittoor.
- Only one district of Karnataka, namely Dakshina Kannada.
Southern Railway Apprentice Recruitment Stipend and Training Period:
The stipend varies based on the candidate’s qualification.
- 10th Std Freshers: ₹6,000 per month.
- 12th Std Freshers & Ex-ITI: ₹7,000 per month. The training period for trades like Welder and MLT is 1 year and 3 months, while for Fitter and Painter it is 2 years.
It is important to note that this notification is for apprenticeship training only, and there is no guarantee of employment upon completion. However, 20% of the vacancies in direct recruitment for posts in Level 1 may be filled by giving preference to apprentices who have completed their training and possess a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC).
Application Process and Selection:
The application process is entirely online. Candidates must visit the official Southern Railway website to apply.
- Processing Fee: A non-refundable fee of ₹100 is required for most candidates. However, SC/ST, PwBD, and women candidates are exempted from paying this fee.
- Selection Method: The selection will be based on a merit list prepared from the marks obtained in the qualifying examination. For Freshers, the merit list is based on marks obtained in Matriculation (10th standard). For Ex-ITI candidates, the merit list gives equal weight to both Matriculation and ITI marks.
